Driving straight south we entered Montana and the city Great Falls. I have read the diary of Lewis and Clark about their exploration of a waterway to the Pacific coast. They went up the Missouri with boats and needed 31 days to transport all their equipment up the 5 falls and 500 ft. here. There are no falls anymore, only dams and power plants. Great Falls is today called Electric City.
Wir fuhren am Missouri entlang – die Landschaft war wirklich schön –
bevor wir wieder die endlosen Weiten erreichten – Prairie genannt – gut genug,
um Kilometer zu machen.
We drove a while along
the shore of the Missouri – the landscape is really beautiful – before we came
back to the endless plains or prairie, good enough to eat miles.
Hier die Karte von unserer nächsten Etappe in Richtung Süden. Von
Kanada kommend ging es nach Montana und weiter nach Idaho und Utah.
Here the map of the next stage on our way south. Coming from Canada we drove through Montana, Idaho and Utah.
In Idaho Falls we
looked for the old timber bridge built in 1865, to give way for another wave of
immigrants heading west. But there is no old bridge anymore and the gorge of
the Snake River is also “civilized”.
75 % of the Citizens of Salt Lake City are Mormons and their biggest temple is situated in the middle f the city. We only could make photos from outside, because only Mormons are allowed to go inside. By the way: Salt Lake City looks not very American – it is a very clean and tidy city!
