Teil 2 - Central America

5 1/2 Monate sind vergangen, als wir am 30.01.2018 wieder nach Mexiko geflogen sind. Oscar hat uns vom Flughafen abgeholt und uns auch am Folgetag betreut.

5 1/2 months later - it was January 30th, 2018 - we took a flight back to Mexico. Oscar picked us up at the airport and spent a day with us visiting the pyramids and downtown Mexico Ctiy.

Die Pyramiden von Teotihuacán haben uns sehr beeindruckt. Die Azteken siedelten hier bereits 200 vor Chr., und 400 Jahre später war die Stadt größer als Rom, und zwar in ihrer Ausdehnung ebenso wie in der Bevölkerungszahl. Auf dem Bild sieht man die Mondpyramide.

The pyramids of Teotihuacán are very impressive. The Aztecs started to build a village here 200 years B.C. and 400 years later it became a city bigger in size as Rome. Even the population was bigger: 200,000 people! The photo shows the pyramid of the moon.

Im Museum konnten wir einige Artefakte aus jener Zeit bestaunen. Keiner weiß, warum die Stadt 750 nach Chr. aufgegeben wurde.

There is a museum which shows some interesting artefacts. Nobody knows why the city was given up in 750 A.C.

Auf Empfehlung von Oscar gingen wir zum Mittagessen in das Restaurant "La Gruta", das in einer Grotte eingerichtet wurde. Wir genossen die tolle Atmosphäre und gutes Essen.

We had lunch at "La Gruta", a restaurant in a cave. This was quite an experience and we enjoyed good food.

Wenn man eine Kerze in eine Wand der Grotte stellt, darf man sich etwas wünschen. Mein Wunsch ging auch gleich in Erfüllung. Am Nachmittag erhielt ich die E-Mail, dass der Transfer unseres Fahrzeugs per Schiff von Colón/Panama nach Cartagena/Kolumbien klappen wird.

You can place a candle in the wall on one side of the Restaurant and make a wish. Mine came true the same day. We have gotten notice, that our vehicle will be shipped from Colòn/Panama to Cartagena/Columbia at the required date.

Wir besuchten natürlich auch das Stadtzentrum von Mexiko City. Besonders gefallen hat uns die "Plaza Major" mit dem Präsidentenpalast an einer und der Kathedrale an einer anderen Seite.

We also made an extended walk through the city center. Especially the huge "Plaza Major" with the cathedral on one side was overwelming.
